Pierre Loti Café, Istanbul, Turkey
Pierre Loti's Café
The Pierre Loti Café, Piyerloti Kahvesi in Turkish, is located in the Eyüp district of Istanbul. Pierre Loti was a French writer who lived between 1850 and 1923. Fascinated by Turkey, and more particularly by Istanbul, which he described as "the only city in the world", Pierre Loti liked to rest on the current location of the Pierre Loti café, the name was a tribute to his loyalty and unconditional love!
The Pierre Loti café is located in the Eyüp cemetery, near the Eyup Mosque, a place of pilgrimage for Turks and Muslims in general. Many Turkish families like to stroll around and have tea with a tasty simit in this famous café, especially at weekends.
The place consists of a wooden house and a terrace with dozens of tables. From the terrace of the Pierre Loti café, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Golden Horn. For all these reasons, the terrace of Café Pierre Loti is rarely empty, no matter what the season or time of day.
Good to know
The Pierre Loti café is open every day. To get there, you must first take a boat to the Golden Horn from Eminönü pier and stop at Eyüp pier. The trip on the Golden Horn is pleasant and only takes about 20 minutes. A longer cruise on the Golden Horn is worth considering if you have enough time during your visit to Istanbul.
Once you arrive at the Eyüp pier, you will have to climb the hill either on foot via the steps or by cable car. At the top of Eyüp Hill, you will quickly come across the Pierre Loti café, located in the middle of the Eyüp cemetery and from where you will have the chance to observe the Golden Horn and even the monuments of the Sultanahmet district when the sky is really clear.
So don't hesitate to go to this famous place and observe one of the most beautiful panoramas of Istanbul, no guidebook on Istanbul will tell you otherwise.
