History and interesting facts: what to know in brief
The construction of the current largest skyscraper in the world took only six years: work began in 2004 and finished in 2009. It was then inaugurated and opened to the public in 2010. At 828 m, it is twice as tall as the Empire State Building in New York and three times as tall as the Eiffel Tower in Paris! However, it could lose its supremacy as the world's tallest building: the Jeddah Tower, in Saudi Arabia, is currently under construction and is expected to be over 1,000 m high when completed!
But the Burj Khalifa holds other records: it houses the longest lift in the world and has enabled Fred Fugen and Vince Reffet to make the world's highest bungee jump, making them a Guinness World Record holder! And on top of all this, it has also been chosen as a location for a number of films: how can we forget, for example, the scene with Tom Cruise in'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol'.
Finally, there is also a little bit of Italy at the Burj Khalifa: inside it is the Armani Hotel, designed by the well-known Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani. It occupies no less than 7 floors, with elegant interiors and spectacular views over the city! A night costs on average €500.00, but it is a truly unique experience!
