Thailand is one of the favourite destinations of the French. This Southeast Asian country has everything to please! Its traditions are very present, its landscapes of a great variety, its refined cuisine.
And Thailand is also a relatively inexpensive destination if you compare it with some neighbouring countries. So many reasons which push each year several thousands of French holiday makers to make the trip to Bangkok, the capital, before spreading out in all the country. If Thailand enjoys an ideal situation when one seeks the sun and heat, certain periods are more favourable than others if one wishes to benefit fully from it.
What is the weather like in Thailand?
Thailand has a humid tropical climate, but there is a real difference between the north and south of the country. In the north, there are three periods: a dry season from November to May when it is very hot. This dry period is however marked by a cooler phase, with occasional showers, from November to February. Finally, from May to November is the rainy season. Showers are frequent and sustained.
The pattern is slightly different in southern Thailand where there are really only two distinct seasons: a rainy season from April to October on the west coast of the country, and from September to December on the east coast. The rest of the year it is hot and generally dry, although rare showers are possible.
Thailand: the ideal time to go
The weather differs from region to region and season to season, but it's also important to think about the types of activities you want to do before you fly. If you want to see Bangkok and its wonders, the best time to go is between November and February. The weather is beautiful and warm, but nowhere near the scorching temperatures of the summer season.
This is also the most touristic period, so to enjoy some peace and quiet, it's best to go in May or June, but then you'll be in the rainy season. But this green season also has its advantages, the landscapes are blazing green and there are still many clear periods, with pleasant temperatures that are less stifling than in the dry season. The only months that are really to be avoided are September and October, as there is a risk of typhoons.
